    Championship bitches

Post by elanya on 14/02/13, 01:22 pm

Tzesira's nerves had been on edge ever since they'd entered the abandoned city. She'd relished the experience at first - the hyper-awareness, and the expectation that something could leap out of any dark corner to attack them. The fight itself had been unexpectedly emotional, rending her hard fought focus away and replacing it with an inexplicable and overwhelming sense of loss. Her experience in fighting the Shadow had helped her shake it off, even as she'd sought to attach her passing grief to any kind of cause, to make it something she could face if if it was, perhaps, a tad ridiculous.

The grief was gone, but it left uncomfortable traces, mingling with her lingering jitters. Her emotions felt sharper than normal, and she couldn't imagine that the others were doing much better.

Roscoe seemed to be finding some solace in hugging Sparky close, but Kallista still seemed tense after having been commanded to hug, and maybe she could do something about that that would provide them both some distraction. She watched the tiefling while Delona and Dheni explained how the portal was a trick, and then shrugged over at her friend with a sharp grin - sharper now that she'd had her teeth filed.

"Well, fuck it then. Some fuckers have been around here, keeping this shit up, and I guess we can look around for some sign of 'em... But it it ain't gonna be easy, we can at lest try and make it more fun, huh bitch?"

Kallista almost didn't hear Tzesira talking to her at first. The sadness and hopelessness that the spirits had brought with them may have been illusory, but its effects were real enough. It had brought back bad memories.

Luckily, the effects weren't as extreme as those of the shadow realm had been, and her experience in the pirate camp gave her the strength of will to push back most of the worst thoughts. If only she could just shut off that part of herself; amputate it from her mind like a surgeon would an infected leg. If only she could forget.

She realized that Tzesira had been talking to her.

"...huh, bitch?" the shadar kai said with what seemed to be a slightly forced smile.

    Kallista stared at her.

"What?" she asked, less than eloquently.

Tzesira snorted, rolling her eyes. "I said - let's do something fun!"

"What, like now?" Kallista asked, cocking her head, "How are we gonna have fun in a run-down, abandoned ghost town that doesn't even have any real ghosts?"

Dheni looked up from his conversation with Delona about search grids, having heard Tzesira and Kallista's exchange.

"Ms. Rhob, Ms. Sinsinger, if you're feeling antsy, perhaps you could oblige and attempt a view from the roof of the temple. We didn't know exactly what we were looking for from the air, but perhaps you can make out anywhere in the city which, like this, seems more well-maintained. Or, at the very least, seems a likely place to inhabit."

    He smiled indulgently.

"Make a contest of it. First to the top and all that."

"I'm game, bitch," She answered, giriing widely and watching Kallista like a hawk in case she took off without acknowledgement that the game was, in fact, on. "You're just lucky I can't fly straight away."

"Seriously," Alia interjected. "If I could hit someone first, I'd fly up there and beat you both. But you guys might object to me using a daily power when we could still have things to kill...."

Kallista's eyes brightened and a smile crept across her face. Some exercise might just be what both of them needed to shake of the lingering malaise. She reached behind her and clasped her hands together, leaning forward to stretch her arms and shoulders in preparation.

"You could try," she said with a wink to Alia, "You've never seen one of our footraces, have you? There's no rules and no pulled punches. One time we nearly burned down the Highwind in mid-flight. Don't step up if you can't keep up."

"Yes, well, let's try to avoid a repeat of that mishap, hmm?" Dheni commented before turning back to his and Delona's discussion. "This city has seen enough damage. Hmph, quite."

"If I have to actually run, fuck that," Alia said with a smirk. "I run for my life, for sex, and occasionally for a good sale on shoes. Actually I don't even run for sex that often - luckily it usually comes to me. I'll follow you up though, I'd like to see the view."

"Good," she said, and with a curt nod the race was on. Tzesira had used the delay to her advantage, and had spied a hole in the ceiling. There were vines hanging down, but it was going to take a heck of a leap to get there, even for Kallista in her boots. There was a wall that seemed scalable, however. She kicked Kallista viciously in the knee and dashed for it, darting nimbly through the piles of rubble that blocked her path

"Ah!" Kallista squeaked as she grabbed her knee involuntarily, "Oh you are so fucking DEAD!"

For now, though, she saw that chasing after the Shadar kai was not going to end in her favor. Tzesira was a better climber and she'd never catch her on a sheer wall. Time to do what she did best - improvise.

She looked around quickly and noticed a five foot square stained glass window near the front of the temple that was somehow still intact, about thirty feet up in the wall. She reached down and grabbed a loose fist-sized rock from a nearby pile of rubble and heaved it as hard as she could. It wasn't a perfect shot, but her practice with throwing stars paid off enough to shatter the window easily. Shards of glass exploded outwards from the temple with a crash. A moment later Kallista braced against the ground and jumped with all her strength, activating her boots. With cat-like grace she landed perfectly on the window frame. She reached out to steady herself, but accidentally grabbed onto a piece of the frame with broken glass in it, cutting her hand.

"Ow, fuck!" she said, looking down. The cut wasn't bad, but it was starting to ooze blood. Unfortunately there was no time to do much about it. Looking down at the shadar-kai who was still trying to find footholds in the interior wall, she grinned and raised a bloody middle finger as she scrambled out the window and began scaling the building's outer wall.

Tzesira laughed manically as she comprehended Kallista's plan, grinning as her friend flipped her off. Well, who knew what it was going to be like up there, once she got outside - her current edge might not be such a great advantage. Meanwhile, she leapt up to catch a better hanhold, climbing as fast as she could, gauging how far away she had to get to the vines before she could jump for them instead... Once she got to that part it should be pretty quick, she imagined, as long as Kallista didn't get up there ahead of her...

Kallista scrambled up the loose brick face of the building as quickly as she dared. crumbling mortar and false footholds threatened to send her plummeting to the ground, but despite the slipperiness of the blood on her left hand she managed to pull herself up to the top without incident, although there were several close calls.

She threw her arm over the ledge of the roof and pulled herself up, her eyes focused on the small balcony on top of the spire that stood on the building's roof.

The first vine she'd grabbed had turned out to be rotten, but it hadn't held her back much. She braced herself and kicked free some debris blocking her exit, eliciting an annoyed grumble for somewhere below her which she promptly ignored. Popping her head out of the hole cautiously, she could see Kallista's head and body emerge over the wall, setting off for the temple's spire at a tear.

Well *that* wouldn't do! She launched herself out of the hole, speeding like the wind to catch up to her, tackling her from behind.

Kallista sprinted toward the spire full speed, barely registering the fact that Tzesira was climbing out of the skylight nearby. Unfortunately she'd already used her boots or she could have simply hopped up to the top of the spire.

As she sprinted up to the base of the structure, she felt a sudden, violent blow to her side. Tzesira had rammed into her just below the ribs, sending her veering off to the side as the breath was forcefully knocked from her chest.

She loss her footing and rolled forward, slamming head-first into a pile of bricks and assorted debris, which sent her world spinning on its axis. Rolling over the pile she crashed back onto the roof of the temple, hitting a weak spot in the rotted wooden planks. She crashed through, falling a few feet to a bracing timber that she managed to grab onto with her good hand.

"Aaaah!" she screamed, dangling from the wooden beam. She reached up to try to get a second hand on the timber but it was no use. Her fingers were too slippery with blood to grip the wood. She glanced downward at the spinning piles of bricks, broken wood, and rusty metal nearly sixty feet below her.

"T!" she screamed up to through the new hole in the roof.

    "Help...."

Tzesira grinned when Kallista was knocked to into a [pile of rubble and went sprawling, hopping quickly back up on her feet. Just as she'd begun to sprint away she heard the ominous crack of wood - she still might have thought K's plea was a fake out if her nerves hadn't been so on edge, and if K's tone had had that true edge of panic. She spun abruptly back towards her friend, closing the distance quickly.

She saw the rotted planks, saw Kay hanging by her fingertips, tail hooked partly around the beam to help keep her balance, with no leverage to recover herself. If she came too close to the edge of the hole, she'd risk making it bigger and having more debris cave in on Kay. The beam she was clinging too seemed solid enough, at least for now, but she wasn't sure it would be able to hold their combined weight. But it might not have to, at least not for long. Kay could get herself out, surely, if Tzesira could get her back up on the beam.

The assessment and subsequent decision were both nearly instantaneous, but she saw Kallista's eye widen as she launched herself into the hole, roling in the air to land, as softly as she could manage, in a crouch on the beam beside Kallista. It cracked ominously, but held at least long enough for her to reach down and grab her friend's wrist. Kay was heavy, but not so heavy that she couldn't haul her up at least enough for her to be able to make a better grab for the beam herself.

"Come on, bitch," she smirked as the tiefling pulled herself up, "we have a race to finish."

Alia, with a little investigation, had found the stairs leading up, partly obscured by some greenery but still seeming solid enough. She climbed cautiously nevertheless, in case the half-rotted wood should give way beneath her feet. From somewhere above she could hear the commotion Tzesira and Kallista were causing, and rolled her eyes. "...gonna break both their necks..." she muttered, leaving it vague as to whether it was a prediction or a threat.

Kallista grabbed her friend's wrist and pulled as hard as she could, swinging her leg up and over the rafter. It creaked ominously beneath her, but held for the moment.

"Fuck... thanks..." she panted as she got her feet under her and stood up on the wooden beam. It groaned and shifted downwards a good inch, making her catch her balance again. At least things weren't spinning so much anymore.

"Fuck!" she said, "Time to go! Jump!"

The two women shoved off of the beam together, throwing their upper bodies through the hole in the ceiling. The beam below them snapped in two, crashing to the floor below and taking a sizable chunk of one wall with it. Kallista flailed through the hole in the ceiling, desperately searching for something to grab onto, finally finding a handhold in the rough brick and using it to haul herself up.

Tzesira wasn't quite so lucky in her leap, and she could see the patch of roof she'd aimed for was also rotten. Rather than landing on her fee or trying to grab for it, she tried to twist before she landed so that she could land on her back, breaking her fall and spreading her weight as evenly as she could along the worryingly spongy surface of the roof. From where she was lying, it was evident that patches of leafy vines obscured other areas where the roof's structure had been compromised. Feeling as much as seeing her way, she rolled and crawled until she reached a section that seemed more solid, then rolled into a crouch

"This whole fuckin' thing is rotted out, Kay - if we're not careful, we'll bring it all right down on everyone's fuckin' heads." She grinned - it was going to be fun. "Step lightly, bitch."

That said, she cast around for the nest solid looking area, picking her way across the roof carefully, her light and silent.

Kallista nodded. They would both need to watch their steps more carefully to avoid a repeat accident. She took just a moment to collect herself and catch her breath before setting off after Tzesira, carefully treading her way along the rooftop

The stairs had given an alarming shudder a short while before, forcing Alia to grab onto a chunk of carved wall for stability. Unfortunately, the rotting wood came away in her hand in a shower of splinters and some kind of disgusting termite-like bugs. She dropped it with a grimace and hastily wiped her hand on her pants. Through the snarl of vines above, however, she could see daylight. She tore them away, shoving them aside where it was impossible to rip through them outright, forcing her way through the vegetation so that she could emerge, hopefully, onto the balcony.
