    Irresistible Force

    Wham.

This was not what her Steel Wind attack had really been designed for, but unless she was willing to accept beating her knuckles raw against the metal door, it would serve. She stepped back again, as far as she could in the cramped darkness, gathering and focusing her ki.

    Wham.

It was hard to tell if it was having any material effect, but it was a psychological exercise as much as anything else. It gave her routine - a point of focus.

    Wham.

It satisfied her sense of inevitability - she would get out, she would find the others, she become an embodiment of terrifying painful vengeance if any of them (especially Kay) had been mistreated.

    Wham.

This, she thought, this feeling - this was why her masters had sent her away. Of course she'd fought when the pirates had come to subdue them, because she was shadar-kai, and you couldn't make it easy. But even then, as soon as she'd realized where she was, as soon as she'd felt it, she'd started to *really* understand.

    Wham.

She did feel a little bad about laughing at the others. They weren't built for this place - they wouldn't understand. What she mostly felt was in control. At ease despite her situation. Her rage was still there if she needed it, but it didn't consume her. She didn't feel overwhelmed.

    Wham.

She could feel the Shadowfell pressing against her like a tangible weight. But it didn't bring her down. Her focus gave her buoyancy. Her training gave her balance. If she could just hold on to this...

    Wham.
