    Questionnaire (Nils)

    Post by Queenofinsanity6 on 05/03/10, 05:15 pm

Q: What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?
A: Nils Anthony. It's kind of hard to nickname a name as short as Nils, although he has occasionally been called 'ginger' or 'carrot' over the years.

Q: What is your character’s hair color? Eye color?
A: His hair is bright flaming red. He tried to change it once, in high school, for a play, but his hair proved to take dye very badly, and the result was so awful that he won't let dye near his head ever again. His eyes are brown.

Q: What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
A: His nose is slightly longer than what is fitting on his face. It's hardly noticeable to most people, but Nils is horribly self conscious of it.

Q: Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did he get them?
A: He has a small birthmark on the inside of his upper thigh, as well as a vast array of scars. Most of them line his arms and fingers, the result of raising a hellion of a bird. He does also have a scar on his shoulder that comes from a fight when he was a little kid.

Q: Who are your character’s friends and family? Who does she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he wish he were closest to?
A: Nils' family consists of his mother, his father, and his little sister in Japan, and his gaming group here. Both are equally family to him. He was always very close with his family, and it has been hard for him to not have them around. He makes up for this with what he calls his 'Texas family'. Out of them, he's definitely closest to Aimee, Connie, and Esperanza. He was also fairly close to Chrys, but now that he's more or less lived her final moments with her, he's a little skittish of thinking about her too much, as the experience has inspired vivid nightmares

Q: Where was your character born? Where has he lived since then? Where does he call home?
A: Nils was born in Greenland, has lived in England, Germany, Italy, and Texas since then. He calls College Station and Suffolk home.

Q: Where does your character go when he’s angry?
A: He puts on his leathers and hops on his bike.If it's night time and he's single, he'll go straight to Halo, get outrageously drunk, and hopefully take a guy home. Otherwise he'll just ride for hours until he cools down. It does, of course, take quite a lot (or just the right one thing) to actually get Nils angry.

Q: What is her biggest fear? Who has he told this to? Who would he never tell this to? Why?
A: Firstly, that he will lose the people he cares about because of his ability. Secondly, that due to some fault or inaction of his own, someone he cares about will get hurt. The past month or so has, understandably, been a tough one for the poor guy. Third, he's terrified that he'll discover something horrible that one of them has done and be obligated to act on it. On a more practical level, he's also terrified of getting his ass beat because he's a gay guy in a horribly conservative town, but he'd never admit that to anyone, because he wants to seem strong.

Q: Does she have a secret?
A: The group knows about his psychometry, and he now knows about his divine heritage. No one knows about the crush he used to have on Simon, or just how much his psychometry has made his life hell over the years. He will always try to keep the details vague, he doesn't want to worry anyone.

Q: What makes your character laugh out loud?
A: He is a big fan of British comedy, unsurprisingly, but he'll laugh at just about any humor done right.

Q: When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?
A: Nils falls in love easily and well, and Aimee and Connie have most likely lost count of the number of times they've had to coach him through a bad break up. He has had a horrible streak of bad luck with romance, and is constantly getting his heart broken.

Then dig deeper by asking more unconventional questions:

Q: What is in your character’s refrigerator right now? On her bedroom floor? On her nightstand? In her garbage can?
A: Wine, high quality cheese, and the essentials, along with a few take out containers. His floor he keeps fairly clean, seeing as he does tend to bring people to his place. The nightstand probably has lube, condoms, a pair of handcuffs, various other such toys, and his well worn copy of Nietzche's 'The Gay Science'. His trash can probably has empty wine bottles, tea, cheese wrappers, empty take out containers, and a used condom or two. He has a rather large trashcan, with a lid, because he hates taking out the trash.

Q: Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Does he wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Is he in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or is he wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by his grandmother?
A: Nils has a lot of boots. Not cowboy boots, mind you, but good leather boots. That's more or less all he wears in the way of shoes. His socks are mostly boring, monotone things, but you will never see him barefooted. Not since he was nine and stepped on what looked to him like a candy wrapper in his friend's brother's room and saw something he wasn't quite ready to see.

Q: When your character thinks of her childhood kitchen, what smell does she associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for her?
A: Tea, chili, and barbecue. Tea, unsurprisingly enough, resonates due to his many years in England. He, his mother, and his sister all fell in love with tea while they lived in Suffolk. Chili and barbecue weren't things commonly found in Europe, but his parents being proud Texas stock would go to extreme lengths to make it for special occasions, even having ingredients shipped to them by relatives or old friends still living in Texas if needed. Such foods were an extra special treat, reserved for special occasions. To this day, just the smell of chili or barbecue puts a smile on his face.

Q: Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for her to throw out? What is difficult for her to part with? Why?
A: Nils doesn't keep much in the way of superfluous items, a product of having to move every few years all his life. He would probably flat out refuse to get rid of old character sheets, old essays he was proud of, and anything reminding him of his family or of Chrys. He'd really be much more concerned about cleaning out the bird's room.

Q: It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing? Give details. If he’s eating breakfast, what exactly does he eat? If she’s stretching out in her backyard to sun, what kind of blanket or towel does she lie on?
A: Ideally, making/eating breakfast for whoever he brought home last night. Otherwise probably sleeping, with plans to meet up with someone from the group later that day.

Q: What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
A: When Nils was 7, and over at the house of a new friend, just after the move to Germany, he sat down on the couch and inadvertently became a witness to an intense scene of physical and mental abuse. Aside from the violence of the scene, he knew that he had to do something to keep the 'bad man,' who ended up being the girl's father, from doing it again. He went home and brought it up with his family, they spoke to the appropriate people, and six months later, after watching the family, there was enough evidence to arrest the father. No one but his new friend and his family knew he had anything to do with it. That scene stuck with him for two reasons. Firstly, it was the first time he'd ever seen anything so violent and brutal, and it left a deep impression on such a young kid. Secondly, she was the first lasting friend he ever had, and from that point on he decided that since he had the gift, he should use it to help his friends. It's a promise he's upheld to this day, even though it meant revealing his abilities to the group.

Q: Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where is he going? What does he wear? Who will she be with?
A: He's going to Halo, Revolution, or O'Bannons. If it's Revolution or O'Bannons, he's probably going with Connie and Aimee, if not everyone. He usually goes to Halo alone, not wanting to have to desert a friend if the night goes well.

    • What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Getting into grad school. My life had taken such an odd turn, and I almost went back to acting. It was one of the hardest choices I ever made, but I'm so glad I decided to do grad school.

    • What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Waking up next to the man I love and having close friends nearby.

    • What is your current state of mind?
Nervous, tired, but somehow the world makes so much more sense now.

    • What is your favorite occupation?
I love being a philosopher. It's one of the oldest and most revered professions, dedicated to deciphering the secrets of the universe. What could be cooler than that?

    • What is your most treasured possession?
He's not exactly a possession, but Watson is my oldest and dearest friend and I love him dearly.

    • What or who is the greatest love of your life?
The Theatre. I'm no longer a serious actor, but I still love everything about it. The stage, the drama, the story, the music, the costumes. Oh, it's wonderful.

    • What is your favorite journey?
The trip around Europe I took with Aimee and Connie. I was with my two best friends, seeing the beauty of the world and showing them things I'd grown up with. It was wonderful

    • What is your most marked characteristic?
Hope. I love life and people and look for the positive in everything. Life is so much better when you see people not as they are, but as they could be!

    • When and where were you the happiest?
God, I've actually had a pretty awesome life. It's really hard to pick just one time. I really couldn't tell you.

    • What is it that you most dislike?
Abuse. I've seen more than my fair share of it, never personally, but I've seen friends deal with it, and I've seen a lot of it through my visions. I just can't understand how someone would treat someone they care about like that.

    • What is your greatest fear?
This isn't something I want the others to know, but I'm terrified of losing my friends because they know about my psychometry. It's happened before. They find out, they decide they don't want me knowing what's gone on by touching their shit.

    • What is your greatest extravagance?
My wine. I spend way too much money getting the good stuff, but I can... more or less afford it, and it's sooooo good.

    • Which living person do you most despise?
    I don't hate anyone. Why should I? It's a waste of energy.

    • What is your greatest regret?
Not being able to save Chrys. I feel like somehow I should have been able to do something about it.

    • Which talent would you most like to have?
The talent of being normal and not reading the history of objects. Or at least the ability to turn it off.

    • Where would you like to live?
I'd really love to move back to Suffolk. I loved it there. I do love Texas, but England will always be home.

    • What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
    Being alone

    • What is the quality you most like in a man?
Compassion. There is nothing more attractive.

    • What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Doesn't matter. Everyone has great qualities.

    • What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I'm well aware I'm a bit naive, and it's gotten me in all kinds of trouble.

    • What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Negativism. Thinking the world is shit makes the world around you much more likely to actually be shit.

    • What do you most value in your friends?
Other than the fact that they're my family in the States? I love Aimee's creativity. She has more creativity in her pinky than I have in my entire body. I love Connie's authority. She has a way of taking charge and making everything turn out so much better just because she's running the show. I love Simon's persistence. He just keeps going forever until he gets done what needs to be done. I admire Bea's strength. She is so fierce and will go all out to protect the people she cares about. For Esperanza, it would definitely be her compassion-she would go to the ends of the earth to help those who need it.

    • Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Sherlock Holmes. I admire him immensely.

    • Whose are your heroes in real life?
J.K. Rowling, for turning the worst time in her life to the best with beautiful prose. Aristotle, who died for his convictions.

    • Which living person do you most admire?
    J.K. Rowling, as above.

    • What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Temperance. It's fairly useless-right up there with Prudence

    • On what occasions do you lie?
When people ask him about anything to do with his ability, other than the group, now. When he needs to lie to protect people he cares about.

    • Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
    I apologize a lot. So I suppose 'I'm sorry'

    • If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would not have my psychometry! It is the bane of my existance!

    • What are your favorite names?
I tend to love flowery Asian style names. African names are also beautiful.

    • How would you like to die?
Saving someone I care about. Or, even better, of old age, surrounded by my loved ones.

    • If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
What do any of us really do when we die? Will we even die, being children of the gods? What happens when one dies, when every pantheon has their say? Can any of us really know?

    • What is your motto?
Love life, no one else can do it for you.
